Solemn MayoBass VST — Bass That Actually Sits in the Mix
Finding a bass sampler that sounds like a real instrument — not a keyboard approximating one — is harder than it should be. The Solemn MayoBass VST was built to fix that. Developed by Solemn Tones, it’s a dedicated bass sampler recorded on a Mayones Patriot Bass through a professional recording chain, capturing the kind of tone that holds up in an actual mix without heavy-handed treatment afterward.
This isn’t a general-purpose sample library with bass thrown in as an afterthought. MayoBass was designed specifically for bass production — whether that means replacing a poorly recorded DI track, writing parts from scratch, or giving a demo-level arrangement the low-end foundation it needs.
No Kontakt. No third-party sampler. Just load it as a plugin and start playing.
Five Mix-Ready Tones, Plus Full DI Access
The five pre-processed presets are one of the standout practical features here. They were built using Darkglass B7K and Parallax — two processors with a strong reputation in bass production circles — covering a range of tonal characters from clean and articulate to aggressive and driven. Each preset is genuinely usable straight out of the box. You don’t need to run it through a separate amp sim or spend 20 minutes dialling in EQ before it fits a track.
If you prefer working from a clean signal, the DI option is there. Shape it however you like — the raw tone from the Mayones Patriot is solid enough to build on.
20 Articulations — Covering What Real Players Actually Do
The articulation set in MayoBass VST is broad. You get down picking, up picking, alternating pick, finger picking, dead mutes, harmonics, slaps, slides, bends, open plucks, dead plucks, left-hand mutes, and slides from and to specific notes. That’s 20 total. It covers most of what a session bassist brings to a recording session, which means programmed parts can hold up to real scrutiny without sounding overly mechanical.
There’s also a Human Error menu — a built-in randomisation tool that introduces subtle timing and velocity variations. The result is bass programming that moves slightly differently on every playback, the way a real performance would. Small thing, but it closes the gap between “programmed” and “recorded” considerably.
For producers working in genres like metal, rock, or anything with heavy low-end demands, the articulation depth here is exactly what makes the difference between a convincing bass part and one that draws attention for the wrong reasons.
Drop Tunings: All the Way to Double Drop C
MayoBass was sampled down to drop F, then retuned to double drop C. That range covers E standard, drop D, drop C, drop B, drop A, drop G, drop F, drop E, double drop D, double drop C, and everything between. Heavy music producers will immediately recognise why this matters — getting a bass plugin to track convincingly at extended drop tunings is notoriously tricky, and MayoBass handles it without the pitch artefacts or string wobble that come from pushing standard samples beyond their intended range.

Where It Fits in a Real Production Setup
MayoBass works well for anyone producing remotely — no bassist available, no studio budget for live tracking. But it’s also genuinely useful even if you do have access to live recording. Writing bass parts quickly for demo approval, programming reference tracks, or replacing a direct track that wasn’t recorded under ideal conditions — these are real use cases where a sampler of this quality earns its place.
If you’re already running virtual instruments for your drum and guitar tracks, MayoBass integrates cleanly into that approach. The recording quality is consistent with professional virtual instruments, so the low end won’t stick out as the weak link in the mix.
The lack of any Kontakt dependency is also genuinely convenient. One less licence to manage, one fewer sampler eating into your CPU overhead.
